Environmental issues are becoming a part of the agenda in almost any kind of technology policy debate. ICT is often seen as the technical solution, which can help us avoiding the climate change as well as other environmental problems. At the same time production and use of ICT equipment is energy consuming and an increasing share of the energy consumption is related to ICT.

This conference will address technology as well as strategic and policy issue concerning the relationship between ICT development and the environment. The conference will focus on the role of ICT in more intelligent processes for production and consumption of energy. This includes:

· Enabling effects: How can ICT reduce energy consumption in other sectors: Video conferencing instead of travelling, home   work place, intelligent traffic systems, smart buildings etc.

· Systemic effects: Green ICT as a model for innovation. How can green ICT change the way we live and work and result in   reorganization of production and consumption

Meet the Experts!
The International Telecommunications Society (ITS) is an association of academics and other professionals in the information, communications, and technology sectors. ITS provides a forum where academic, private sector, and government communities can meet to identify pressing new problems and issues, share research results, and form new relationships and approaches to address issues of concern to research, business and policy communities alike. Its network of researchers comprises outstanding scholars in the field of telecommunications research that are well known from the literature (see www.itsworld.org).
In order to share the valuable expertise represented by highly specialised academics and renowned industry experts with younger researchers, the ITS has decided to organise a PhD seminar.
Not more than 15 students will be selected from the responses to this call. In accordance with the topics presented by the winning candidates, experts from the ITS network will be chosen to discuss new ideas brought forward by PhD students in small groups. The focus will be on the discussion of ideas presented by the participants, and less on the mere presentation of papers. A selection of papers presented at the seminar will be encouraged for refereed submission in Telecommunications Policy.
The seminar will be linked with the European Regional Conference of the ITS to be held at the same location subsequent to the PhD seminar. Access to this conference will be free of charge for the participants of the PhD seminar.
The seminar will be organised by ITS. It will be held in Copenhagen and hosted by the Centre for Communication, Media and Information Technologies (CMI).
Participation is free of charge.
